This review is from: The Gift: Awakening (Paperback)
By pure chance, I read book 4 of this series, “The Gift Penance”. I had read somewhere something about kayaks and the setting was Vancouver B.C. I wanted to “check it out”. During my childhood and teenage years I loved to read fairy tales. Before I knew it I was deeply involved in the for me, a history buff, a history writer, very unusual story. I had never read anything like it. I admired the author’s imagination and tried to get into her mind. How the h…could she come up with these ideas? I wanted to know more. Now I started at the beginning with book one: “The Gift Awakening”. A bit of a slow start but the locations, the characters and circumstances were right there and I was in the middle of it, became and felt part of it. I only know ONE other writer who can ‘paint’ pictures with her words, Ann Victoria Roberts, but her books are based on facts. J.P. McLean is a gifted writer, her books are based on her imagination which is second to none. I don’t want to give anything of the plot away – but believe me – reading one of her books in this series will get you hooked. I want to read all of them, I want to know what happens to the protagonist Emelynn, a character close to my heart, I want to know… yes, I want to know it all. If you look for something ‘out of this world’ – something almost (almost??) impossible, read “The Gift” series. It’s engrossing, entertaining, engages your own imagination and doesn’t let you go until you read the next book…
